Farm Sustainability Assessment (GG FSA), GOLD performance level. The FSA is designed to improve the social, environmental, economic, and overall management practices of farms.<\/p>\n<p>Azienda agricola Patea has been awarded GLOBALG.A.P. RISK ASSESSMENT ON SOCIAL PRACTICE (GRASP), thus continuing its social responsibility efforts to meet the many requirements of the most demanding customers.<\/p>\n<p>GRASP is designed to extend the social standards of the GLOBAL G.A.P. certification.<\/p>\n<p>GLOBALGAP\u00ae certification covers, among other things, the implementation of good agricultural practices for cultivation activities, the preservation of resources and environmental protection, and the health and safety of workers.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>In the garden<\/h3>\n<p>There are 3 cultivars of bergamot, each one with its specificities:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fantastico<\/strong> : The most widespread of all cultivars nowadays, the tree is vigorous and very productive. The fruit often grows in bunches, and the yield can be up to 120 kg per tree per season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Castagnaro <\/strong>: A very productive and hardy cultivar, the yearly yield can approach 200 kg fruits characterized by very thick and sometimes rough zest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Femminello<\/strong> : Despite a lower yield, smaller fruit, and thinner zest, this cultivar is less sensitive to climatic variations during the production cycle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-6917 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-101832.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-101832.png 534w, https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-101832-223x300.png 223w, https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-101832-276x370.png 276w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/>In the gardens of Calabrian producers, bergamot trees grow from the grafting of a small branch of bergamot on a bitter orange tree, about 5 years later the tree begins to produce its first fruits.<\/p>\n<p>The fruits start to be ripe from December to February, this is when the pickers collect by hand the bergamots and transport them to Patea\u2019s factory.<\/p>\n<p>The peel of bergamot, whatever the variety, is very hard and it is common to let the fruit rest at the factory for another two to three days to soften the skin, before extraction.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Essential oil<\/h3>\n<p>The main interest of bergamot lies in the floral and citrusy essential oil contained in the flavedo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6918 alignleft\" style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 14px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-133632.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-133632.png 897w, https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-133632-300x250.png 300w, https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-133632-768x640.png 768w, https:\/\/bontoux.com\/site2021\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Capture-decran-2023-03-28-133632-444x370.png 444w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To extract the precious elixir, we use the cold pressing process, the fruits are processed in a unique device called Pelatrice.<\/p>\n<p>In the Pelatrice, the bergamots are placed in an auger system at room temperature.
